Want to Save Money? Try Cooking Cabbage
Cabbage is cheap. In season, like right now, it becomes a downright steal. But what if, you ask, you don't particularly care for cabbage? Perhaps sour smells of boiled cabbage linger in your memory. Maybe you've only ever had simpering, sad, unseasoned versions of this versatile vegetable. Well, we can change that.
First of all, there are many kinds of cabbage, from the stronger-tasting and super-crunchy green cabbage to the softer (and dare I say prettier?) Savoy cabbage. Red cabbage makes a great crunchy snack. And Napa cabbage and bok choy take well to a quick stir-fry or light braise.
Try one of these recipes to make the most of fall and winter's great, cheap storage green:
- Butter Braised Cabbage
- Beet & Cabbage Borscht
- Cabbage & Onions
- Garlicky Bok Choy
- Caraway-Scented Red Cabbage
