This recent test from Consumer Reports shows that bagged lettuce - even that labeled "pre-washed" and "triple-washed" - still has bacteria most of us would want to avoid. The results spanned all types and brands: "Brands for which we had more than four samples, including national brands Dole, Earthbound Farm Organic, and Fresh Express, plus regional and store brands, had at least one package with relatively high levels of total coliforms or enterococcus. "
The solution? Wash your greens, whether you buy them by the head or by the bag. Check out this step-by-step guide to washing lettuces and greens and learn more About Lettuce.
