These humble little oatcakes are a specialty in Nova Scotia, a place I've been lucky enough to visit a handful of times - always in summer and it's always glorious. I love the place, and these oatcakes symbolize an important part of that love: simple, well prepared food. They have a decided salty edge to their sweetness and you can bake them up as chewy or as crisp as you like. Just be sure to have a cup of tea or coffee, or at least a glass of cold milk, alongside them.
