When I was in Montreal last month, I was particularly taken by these paniers de la semaine, or "farm baskets" offered at one stand at the Jean Talon Market. This organic farm had towers of squash and cured garlic and apples for sale, too. These paniers gave shoppers a pre-set combination of what the farm was harvesting that week for a bit of a price break, in the spirit of CSAs but without the membership. A basket of apples, 2 butternut squash, a braid of garlic, leeks, thyme, and a few hot house tomatoes (grown in the farm's greenhouse) at 26% off the regular price for the basket.

It all made me wish I weren't staying in a hotel and already booked with dinner reservations.
