Kiwis - Kiwifruits

Kiwis (a.k.a. kiwifruits) look like fuzzy brown eggs. As unremarkable as they are on the outside, that hairy exterior hides a brilliant green brightly flavored flesh beautifully studded with tiny black seeds (which are completely edible). Unlike to many fruits, kiwis don't brown after cut, making them a fruit salad favorite. Kiwis are fragile, so check carefully for bruising before you buy. They will ripen after picked, so chose firm kiwis and let them ripen on the counter until just a bit soft - rather like a peach. Look for them in season from January through May.
