Kishus are wonderfully perfectly seedless teeny tiny tangerines (they make clementines look like freakish giants!). The best ones are as sweet as candy. They are grown mainly in Southern California, particularly near Ojai and Santa Barbara, and harvested in February most years. If you find them at a market near you, look for bright fruit that feels heavy for its teeny size. They are often sold in pint containers, like strawberries and as pictured above, or loose at farmers markets. Be sure to taste one before you buy—there is nothing quite as disappointing as a basketful of not-quite-sweet kishus!
